Hi everybody!

Do you find it easy to match a lampshade to a base?

I would say the devil is not as black as he is painted, but there are a few traps we can easily fall into.

I will show you the five most common mistakes when choosing lampshade.

  1. Wrong size. Two common issues: too small or too large. In both cases, the proportions are off. A shade that is too small exposes techical elements of the lamp that should be hidden. One that is too large covers up the lamp’s beauty.
  2. Wrong shape. With minor exeptions, the lamp’s base should echo the shades’s base. If the lamp has a square or rectangle shape, the shade should also be angular. For round lamp forms, we recommend pairing with a conical or cylindrical shade.
  3. Ill-considered colour or material. We are often influenced by adverts or someone else’s interior- especially in the era of Instagram. We click “add to basket” quickly and later find ourselves walking through the whole apartment trying to find a right place for our new purchase.
  4. Lack of style consistency. This one is hard to defend. The previous points sometimes can sometimes be explained away or you can find the right spot for the set. But if your purchase is totally different from your apartment’s style, things get more complicated.
  5. Ignoring the main function. This happens when we chase a trend or a look and forget that, first and foremost, the lamp and shade should give us- surprise- light 😉

Do you identify with any of these points? You might think I’ve made the subject more complicated, but don’t worry. Step by step, in the next posts I will show you how to handle it and make good match- even online.
